Because they are two different audiences. Selling people something they aren't getting will just make them angry. That's what the Sweeney Todd movie did. Every trailer and ad eliminated any singing by characters. A lot of people who hate musicals went in thinking they were getting something very different and that just spelled bad word of mouth.
Making a show something it is not will just creat another DotV.
