I've no idea what happened to Crawfords voice after Phantom, but he sounded shit for DotV. His name alone could have carried the show for a while longer had he not turned it into some slapstick nonsense.
The fact that Crawford struggles for work these days ever since DotV I'd say he has a lot of remorse. I could say ever since Woman In White, but I heard he begged Webber for a part at no pay just to get his name out there, and then he got shown the door after a little while. Something like that.
