I know Jim and Jacqueline have always been against the idea of more rigid moderation, but this board desperately needs it. Part of the problem is the lack of official information coming from the Steincamp. If news were posted by an official formally identified representative, or - perhaps more appropriately - posted on the site's news page instead of on a forum, then maybe people would be less likely to fill the vacuum with their own stories (and, consequently, the self-appointed 'gatekeepers' on this board wouldn't have a reason to attack them). If, when someone posted supposedly inside information, there was an official word from someone inside Jim's camp either way, it would help. I think it's also boredom and frustration at the lack of news. However, it isn't just that. The way some people are responded to on this board is appalling. (Yeah, I can see your argument coming - if you don't like it, don't read it). If I were someone new to Steinman, or a journalist doing research, I'd be disgusted when coming across the Rockman Record. I think fans are doing Jim a great disservice by hurling puerile and offensive comments at each other on his official board. As far as I can see, having these kinds of arguments in 'public' can only damage Jim's reputation; if I were Jim, I'd be embarrassed (and it certainly wouldn't inspire me to share more rare material!) I recognise that people posting lies about Jim's work is also damaging; what I'm criticising is the way that's responded to. I've been part of the fan community since 1997, back on the old mailing list. I used to post quite a lot, but the behaviour and sheer lack of respect on this board in no way encourages me to express any opinions for fear of being shot down in flames. There's a dignified way of challenging someone - you don't have to stoop to those levels and it brings the whole community into disrepute. It isn't everyone, it's three or four people in particular. Guys - please take your arguments off-board if you're not going to challenge each other in a respectful way. Most of us are here for the music and respectful discussion about Jim's work, not to watch people bullying each other and hurling abuse (even if it's in defense of 'the truth'). I understand that Jacqueline is incredibly busy, but we need clarity and consistency so that, when there is a problem, we can go to them with a clear argument. Stating some kind of rules up front and getting someone neutral to monitor the board would make a tremendous difference. This is going to become even more important when the musical finally opens and, hopefully, interest in Jim and traffic to this site, increases. Yep, I know I'm not going to make myself popular with this post, but this is getting silly. I love Jim's music but I honestly think this board is doing him no favours at the moment. > Yep.
