I think that BFG and Dead Ringer are very strong albums (and with better songs than Bat 2 on the whole), but BFG is let down a little by Jim's vocals, while Dead Ringer is let down by the muddy production and Meat's dodgy vocals. Certainly songs from both album fit into the Neverland concept very easily, but is/should the Bat musical be simply a rehashed Neverland? Jim's avowed intent early on was to use "up to 15" songs from Bat 1 and Bat 2, so I don't see how he can fit many more in (what with Body, Children, Playground, and Pigs in there as well). I get the feeling Neverland will either need a huge rewrite (to fit all of the Bat songs) or the original concept of a Bat musical will have to change a little (with more non-Bat songs in there). Given they've called the musical Bat Out of Hell, I'd hazard a guess that Jim has to go down the former route. Forcing songs in where they clearly do not fit would be a recipe for disaster. | |
