Like when they stuck Blondie songs into Desperately Seeking Susan for no artistic reason. Neverland was a story in Jim's head way back when he and Barry were hanging out at Amherst. The composer has been obsessed by it for almost four decades. It means something to him and somehow that is going to get through to the audience. You might not think that the songs are relevant to the Peter Pan story but you have to trust that Jim's book will be written in a way that makes them relevant. For example, if Hook sings I Would Do Anything For Love, the lyrics will help to develop his character and therefore move the story forward by giving the character greater depth. | |
