Bill Kenwright has made a fortune from cheap productions. He has now used this fortune to buy Everton Football Club.

He was an actor in Coronation Street when he was young and when he quit to become a producer he hit on the great idea of presenting Corrie stars in live theatre. Since they knew him so well, they went along with the plan.

One of his big money spinners was a production of Joseph, which mainly toured regional theatres. When I saw it in Cambridge, (1983), there was no set or lighting. He cut the budget right down to make as much of a profit as possible.

In his defense, he discovered the wonderful Willy Russell and projects like Blood Brothers and Shirley Valentine still enjoy box office success today (despite the miserly budgets, Blood Brothers remains in the West End).

He has two connections to BOOH The Musical. His nephew is working on the show and he produced a show with Elva called Elecrtic Ice (starring gold medalist Robin Cousins -score by Mike Oldfield) at the Victoria Palace Theatre during the early eighties.

The director had to do the lighting himself and the costume budget was less than two grand but the audience liked it and it was a fun show to hang around.
