That is pretty much what I was thinking. I did the formula once for a Jim song I know it started with take a cliche' for the title, then it went like add a dash of dry humor or a play on words, a little irony, big chorus with lots of repetition, thundering drums and tempo changes, mix with something emotional. Rinse, lather, repeat. I even wrote a Jimitation set of lyrics once that were pretty spot on - wish I'd kept them.
