I don't think there were any problems with Meat's vocals when recording Bat 2.

Compilation or 'comping' vocals has been standard practice for years in studios (more so for bad singers, but great singers as well).

I would suggest that no-one can sing a Steinman song straight through and get the perfect take (for Jim), partly because they are difficult to song, partly because they are long, and partly because Jim is known as a perfectionist in the studio.

I doubt the rumour that Meat sang 'Anything For Love' 50 times and Jim pieced it together. Maybe some individual lines were done over & over but the bulk of the song, 10-12 times tops?

Meat said (in interview) that they ran through Objects 2-3 times quickly to get a 'guide vocal', but after comping these takes, Jim was happy, and it's one of Meat's best vocals (sometimes less is more).

Having said that some people like to record a vocal straight through to get a 'vibe'. Elton John for example used to 'comp', but on his last 2-3 albums he has been recording takes straight through and then picking the best 'complete take'.

Be interesting to know if any released Steinman songs are a complete vocal take (I think Kyle Gordon's 'A Kiss' might be?).
