I think SS was talking from a UK point of view to be fair, where ALW has become much more of a household name (and face) due to his reality shows. However, I'd still challenge his assertion that ALW is more famous than Meat in the UK. Meat has always been well known over here - even having hit singles from the Bad Attitude and Blind Before I Stop albums, when his stock was at an all time low in the US.

I understand the desire for Jim to get more credit for his achievements, but I think a few people on here forget that Jim is a songwriter. Songwriters don't get the headlines (unless they sing their own songs) so to expect Jim to move out of Meat's "shadow" is unrealistic.

Are Leiber & Stoller more recognisable than Elvis?
Are Ashford & Simpson more recognisable than Diana Ross?
Is Bernie Taupin more recognisable than Elton John?

I would have no problem with Meat playing a role in the BOOH musical if he were still up to the task. But let's be honest here - we all know that his voice suffers when he tours, with alarmingly inconsistent performances, and he needs plenty of rest between shows to give even a half way decent performance. There's no way he could stand up to the task vocally these days, although I have no doubts he possesses the acting ability to do it.

Let's not forget Meat started out in musical theatre the same as Jim, and despite his larger than life persona, he has the ability to tone it down and play as part of an ensemble cast. He did it in Rocky Horror, Hair, and MTYD, and he still does it in his film roles.

The reason I poured scorn on the idea of Meat appearing in the Bat musical is simply because he doesn’t have the voice for it these days. And I think he knows that as well. Hence, it's not gonna happen.
