I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I wonder... does it matter??
I can imagine why Jim doesn't want to do something like this... all the silence around his person, the hiding of his personal life... all we know about Jim is his music, and that is apparantly the way he wants it.
The question than is... does it matter... would knowing what Jim's fave food, restaurant, colour or type of socks influence the way you experience the songs?? Would knowing whether he actually experienced what he wrote make the song more real for you?? Don't you think that some of the magic would be lost if you discovered who the man behind the music really is???
For the same reason that I refuse to watch the director's commentary on for example Lord of the Rings, I wouldn't want to know Jim as a person... it would destroy the magic.
This way, I get to make him who I need him to be, and that makes him a much bigger influence in my life than any real human being ever could be... which is exactly what I need...
For me, this is about his songs and what they mean to me... who he is as a person is no factor in my relationship to his music... (I won't ask whether I am making any sense, but wonder if you know what I mean...)
