In "To Hell and Back", that autobiographical tome of irrefutable facts regarding the life of Mr. Loaf, he claims that he grabbed 3 copies, and that he never knew what happened to the other "boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes" of records.
I'd guess that somehow they didn't all get destroyed. I got a copy and a promo-copy and I've seen a few change hands on eBay since I got mine.
