Whoever cast Macgyver as Col O'Neill should be given some kind of award.

At this point I have to give Sliders a mention - boy genius creates trans-dimensional wormhole out of a toy mobile phone, roping in one of his work colleagues, his physics professor and a one-time pop star. The first two seasons were really good but after that fell off significantly. It always had a penchant for ripping off classic and current SF plots but always made an interesting point doing so, however by series 3's rip-off of 'Species' it was clearly suffering. Replacing the rotund and slightly balding John Rhys Davies with the sultry Kari Wührer, and Vancouver with LA were clearly attempts to rope in a 'mass' audience. Neither really worked but it did manage to scrape through to five seasons in total, one more than poor old Enterprise.

But then, TV is a very wierd and nonrational place, just look at what happened to Firefly! ;)
