Is that the kubrick Shining or the Stephen King Shining? I think Kubricks version is a masterpiece on so many levels... not just if you look at it as a horror movie.

One of the most disturbing movies I've seen as a kid was 28 days later. It's the whole image of being all on your own in such a horrible place with practically no way out (the father and daughter in the tower block really got me). I recently picked it up on blu ray but still havent built up the courage to watch it again.

However I'm not really a fan of all those 'torture porn' franchises (Saw, Hostel, TCM, etc) the way they play with your psyche doesnt appeal to me at all, though the first Saw was quite a good movie.

Other favourites are the Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Final Destination and Alien series'. I bought the new Jackie Earl Haley NOES yesterday. It's gotten mixed reviews, gonna see what it's like tonight...
