I always tell to everyone who knows me deeply that Jim's music FOUND ME through a long coincidences series, and I'm
convinced 'bout that.
Sometimes I think is magic...
I would like to be english mother tongue to explain my story but isn't so. I'll try to tell you my story anyway,
hoping I will be clear enough!
I was 13 and at that time I do not knew who Jim Steinman or Meat Loaf was. At that time the only singer on which I
listen to was Michael Jackson.
I used to listen to the radio when I was home after school, and one day from nowhere starts some notes from a
piano... that was the notes from 'anything for love'.
It was love at first sight for sure!
I remember I was stunning and I wanted that song so bad, but I didn't know who was the singer.
That song was often played by radio stations here in Italy even if Meat & Jim are almost unknown.
On one of this times I've recorded the song on a MC and I used to listen to that song every moment, every day for
innumerable times, always unaware of who written it or who sing it.
One day a family friend came to visit my parents (he was a chimic professor) and obviously I was listening to
anything for love.
He heard the notes and he told me: "Wow, you listen to Meat Loaf?"
Amazed I asked him: "Do you know who sings that? Do you have it????"
He told me he knew only Bat out of hell, that was one his fav LP of the time.
So finally I wrote the name of the singer on my school diary, hopefully to find some record in a little music shop
in the city where I live.
After some negative searches I was doubtful about find some Meat records in my city, but the school year was near
the end so I ask one thing to my mom: "Mom, if this year I'll be graduated will you gift me Meat Loaf's MC?"
My mom said "Of course" even if I can imagine now what she was thinking at that time (Who damn is Meat Loaf?).
After two months ca. was the time of the school resuslts. I woke up in the morning and go to school to see if I was
graduated or not.
Going to my school I passed behind the little music shop like every day, and like every day I checked if there was
something new. I was not think about the Meat Loaf'MC in that moment when I check the display, but.... there it
was!!! Bat out of hell 2 was there beyond the glass... FOR ME!!!!
The cover, the music, was a new world for a child like me!
The day afore that day MC wasn't there, but now was!!!
I ran immediately to see the results (graduated, yeah!!!!!) then I ran to a phone booth to call mom... "Mom! Mom!
I've been graduated and there is the Meat Loaf's MC!!"
The same day my mother buyed me the MC that I've then consumed because of the repeated listenings.
That was my first love in music, the first time I read Jim Steinman name...
In the beginning I was convinced Steinman was the real name of Meat Loaf but after a month ca. I discovered (after
another great coincidence) that wasn't so.
My curiosity was so high and nobody was able to tell me anything about the record or Steinman or Meat.
Internet was only a dream in 1993 (a rich thing for rich people).
So came the summer... one afternoon of that summer me and a friend of mine decided to go at the library of the city.
At that time I was very fascinated by Einstein theories and I was used to go to the library very often to read
Einstein's books.
That day my attention was captured by an encyclopedia that I have never seen before there.
There was 10 books with the title "Rock encyclopedia" vol.1, vol.2, vol.3 etc...
I took one of that books casually (vol.5). In fact I was looking for something about Michael Jackson, so I took
vol.5, I put it on the table and I opened casually... Maybe you will not believe that (even me sometimes) but the
first page that came out was Meat Loaf's biography!
I was amazed! That was an unbelievable thing to me!
The librarian made me a photocopy of that pages and I hang it in my bedroom.
Every day I read to the story and with the time (and some great, great searches) I was able to find some other Meat
Loaf's records
Dead Ringer was a christmas gift when I was 15.
There was only one record that I wasn't able to find: Bad for good
After years (I was near 18) I was going to buy some pants in a city near mine.
In that city there was a very very little music shop in which I've entered to buy a Savatage record that I was
looking for (Streets).
After I opened the door Bad for good LP was unexpectedly in front of me!
Another great coincidence or another call from Jim's music?
From that time my slogan became "There's always something magic" and my faith in Jim's music is still alive like the
first time I've heard anything for love.
Then with the help of time (And some travels to Virgin records in Milan and the internet) I've buyed everything
about Jim (tanz, whistle etc.)
Every time I listen to some new Jim's stuff I return to the enthusiasm of my 13.
Nobody will never know how his music changed my life, nobody will understand how much important to me is!
I incredibly understand his music as it be mine. I love his lyrics and his world. I love all the connections between
his songs!
Some called them "recycled stuff"... I call them CONNECTIONS.. just like a never ending rock opera.
I could go on with some other 2 coincidences but I think this post is long (and boring) enough to you, and is not so
easy to me to write in english.

And so... Cheers!!!!
Zoltar :-)
