Yes. They had all those wonderful sets and there is a disadvantage to video because it can't capture the atmosphere of the old black and white film. The same is true for digital still photography (in my opinion).

Although now students can make films in High Definition using inexpensive cameras. I've got one that fits in my pocket and it cost about 120 quid.

You can get a much more professional result than in the days when students used 8mm or 16mm cameras and the whole process is cheaper. Although the video cameras you use are probably much more sophisticated than the one that fits into my pocket. Are they like the cameras that news crews use?

Trying to make a film in the old "Universal" style sounds like a really exciting experiment.

Yes. It is awesome and I know what you mean by it being quite disturbing in places. Probably it is better than Lugosi's Dracula (although both are five stars in my opinion).

Another five star black and white horror film is 1939 version of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (see link and photos below). Have you seen it?
