My understanding is that John Payne wrote the song for the ELO Part 2 project and obviously played it to Jim (I think they worked together in NYC for about 6 months).

I would suggest Jim did some production work on the song before the project folded? The version that appears on Archiva 1 bears the mark of Steinman in the intro keyboard part and BV's?
