Your most possibly right about that fact...
That could be the reason for it.

It could also depend on at what stage of the mixing process the recorded feed was taken from also.
If it was taken from the main bus then then it would more than likely change as the sound guy would be listening to the volume's in the room, not the recording.
I have done plenty of shows were I have had recording equipment and or camera's in the room taking a feed from the desk through auxiliary sends.
You give them a level and tell them to fix it themselves as your job is to concentrate on the peformance not the recording.
