| Wow. That is really good. Of course its sort of a different approach than Jim's approach but why not? The BOOH songs and the Peter Pan concept could inspire many different writers to write in many different ways. I especially like the dialogue. I love the way Peter sets up the song "I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back". Peter: 'Don't you dare...don't you dare say that! She has to come back. She must! I'll kill her if she don't come back...' Then the girls (including Wendy) are all like Mannequins. Your dialogue and descriptions fit in with the songs very tightly. This is what a book musical absolutely needs to achieve. Your choice of that song for Peter fits in with JM Barrie's complaint that his vison of Peter as a very dark character was never realised. I think only a dark character would make a threat like that. But could they include it in a family show? Even though it makes artisitic sense. The same is true of Wendy getting pregnant. It really does work dramatically but this is a West End musical. Although, that would certainly help to distance this Peter from other Peters. Also, what would you think if Tink became a female the same age as Peter and there was a love triangle between Tink, Peter and Wendy? At the moment Tink is a boy much younger than Peter but some people are pushing for a change. Going back to your version, I do think this would be an excellent way to end Act One. Jim's idea is to have a very exciting song like BOOH with the album cover coming to life and the introduction of the special chopper bike. To send the audience out on a high. I think that will work. Its show business. However, your plan to end Act One leaving the audience wondering things is brillaint. Its just a different approach. When you say: "Amongst other open plot lines involving Hook this ending also adds the questions...Will Wendy come back? Has there been a birth? Boy or a girl? Will Peter leave Neverland for Wendy, and will he ever return?" The audience will want to return from intermission to find out what happens next. | |
