Well judging by what Meat said at the time, Desmond Child was picked because of his ability to pull in the punters (Michael Beinhorn being too obscure I guess).
But I wonder if there would have been as much objection to the whole "Bat" 3 situation if Todd HAD been producing AND had written extra material... rather than Child?
I personally doubt Todd would have done that, but you never know.
