Yeah I was a little confused by that, but on consideration felt that he was perhaps trying to explain the concept of verisimiltude (see link)and its role in media representation in laymens terms - which can't be easy in that sort of soundbyte-rich media environment.

I can see how it applies to the cultivation of reputation - if something is easier to believe than the truth then it will be - but struggle to see how it applies to the wikileaks thing.

I have to say that I'd rather know an unpalatable truth rather than be left in the dark, so I'm generally for disclosure, though still feel there is an element of responsibility on the part of those doing so for the potential consequences in certain situations. Whistleblowers need to be more accountable than the organisations they are exposing. I'm not sure Assange is.
