| I agree with Jacqueline about this. If you've ever had the opportunity to meet someone with a very public profile and approached them as a fan, you're probably familiar with how the interaction typically proceeds in a hierarchical way: You as the fan get some rush of some emotion at the idea of standing next to someone you admire... and they *try* to act graciously while being admired. You have the fan role and they have the star role and you play them out. Jim breaks down the hierarchy. Sure, he'll play out the star role by signing your autograph and answering your questions without commenting on how lame it is that you couldn't think of anything better after listening to his songs 1,000s of times, but he approaches the interaction *as if you are equals*... or at least it feels that way. I mean, the guy really does dress rock 'n' roll, but he treats you like someone *he* wants to get to know better. I used to bash the shit out of Jim in fury for not giving me more of the awesome music only he can provide, but I can't do it anymore -- Jim is just too nice of a guy... I mean, a gentleman in the old traditional, thoughtful sense. And he does remember names and show off a funny wit. -=John Galt=- > I've been with Jim when he's met many, many of his fans > and I know many others that have met Jim when I wasn't > there to see it.
