| I have just watched the film that Jim and Meat made for a German television show called Rockpalast, in June 1978. I already have the DVD but I wanted to see if the televised version is different from the DVD version. The main thing that is missing from the television version that Sky Arts One is now showing is the wonderful interview with Meat and Jim that is included on the DVD. Its like Sky Arts One shows the film of Bat Out Of Hell with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra but they cut out Bat Out Of Hell the song. This may be one reason why WarioLoaf urges people to buy the Melbourne Symphony DVD. It is strange that a televised film using the Bat Out Of Hell brand would cut out one of Jim's most famous songs and include a song not actually written by Jim. After all, Bat Out Of Hell is the title track and it is called Bat Out Of Hell with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. At least Sky Arts One is regularly broadcasting films that have a lot to do with Jim. Classic Albums: Bat Out Of Hell and Meat Loaf: Behind The Music Updated include really cool interviews with Jim and also there are plenty of people talking about Jim. Meat Loaf: In Search Of Paradise features a lot of Jim's music, even though it includes the worst version of Paradise ever. So at the moment (and this has been the case for a while now), Sky Arts One is regularly showing five films which feature Jim. My favourite is the German Rockpalast film because the venue is dark and the voice introduces Meat Loaf but when the spotlight is turned on, it is Jim underneath it, looking very charasmatic. Then he sits at the piano and plays chords with his elbows as the band launches into Bolero. After which Jim plays the fantastic piano intro for Bat Out Of Hell and then Meat gets on stage. I'm so glad that Rockpalast has preserved this concert for all time. My second favourite Meat - Jim documentary is Behind The Music because it features Jim's video for "Dance In My Pants". The only Meat - Jim film that I haven't seen (as far as ones that I know of) is Meat Loaf: Storytellers. I have just recieved the extended cut DVD and will watch it a bit later. Are there any other Meat - Jim documentaries that I don't know about? | |
