YOU. ARE. ABSOLUTELY. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. If you're > not, well hopefully you'll be a bit better after reading > this post. I've managed to unearth a number of lost > Steinman treasures. It's quite a thrill to be experiencing > these amazing recordings that have been hidden away for > decades. I've described them below. I'll see if I can get > a few of the tracks onto the > href="http://www.youtube.com/dreampollution" > target="_blank">Dream Pollution YouTube channel, so be > sure to subscribe if you haven't done so already! Subscribed. Karla DeVito left a comment on "Dance in my Pants" too. > > The Dream Engine demos: This tape has Jim singing > "Who Needs the Young", "Heaven Can Wait", and "Train of > Love". There are also alternate versions of the latter two > songs, featuring an unidentified female vocalist and a > vocalist identified only as 'Brian', respectively. "Heaven > Can Wait" is done in country-western style. OMG!!! Could this be the first demo of "Heaven Can Wait"? And do you think anybody will ever uncover the Bette Midler version? "Train of > Love" is an up-tempo Motown-ish song. I've been really curious about this one for ages. This is an unheard Jim Steinman song! And you didn't say if it had been recycled or not. And FINALLY, we get to hear a studio-like version of "Who needs the young?" I LOVE that song and it should have been on Bat, IMHO! > > The Dream Engine audition tape: In February 1970, > Jim had an audition with Warner Records to potentially > produce a cast album for The Dream Engine (they > rejected the idea). OMG!!! THE audition!! Everybody knows this story, am I correct? Jim sings and plays piano, providing > commentary between songs. The songs are "Come in the > Night", "Mother River Song", This was originally "Ganges River" in "A Man's A Man", according to Stephen Collins. "You've Got to Love Me with > the Sun in Your Eyes Until the Day That You Go Blind", This proves it exists!!! FINALLY, we're going to hear this!!! O_O > "Ride a Cock Horse", "Who Needs the Young", "City Night", "City Night" was around at this time, VERY interesting. > "Hymn to Fire", "Pyro", "Keep on Truckin", and "Hear the > Screams". Unfortunately this tape has pretty poor audio > quality. Couldn't give a damn, LOL, as long as we can hear it enough. But was the tape always like this? Or has it deteriorated over time? > > More Than You Deserve demos: The highlights of this > tape are Jim singing "More Than You Deserve" and > "Souvenirs", Jim singing "More than you deserve"... WOLF WITH THE RED ROSES is going to LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Souvenirs" is an UNHEARD song, as far as I know, and it wasn't part of the show (Unless it appeared under a different title.) But MICHAEL WELLER, the author, said that was the original name of the show until "More than you deserve" was added for Meat and became the title. and newly-partnered Jim and Meat doing a duet > on "Give Me the Simple Life". WOW!!!!! AND I LOVE THIS SONG TOO!!!! Give me the simple life Harry and Sharon, a husband and wife... Is that lyric correct? It's kind of inaudible on the bootleg. Other songs are "Water > Seller's Song", "Smoke Song", Both of these songs come from "The Good Person Of Szechuan", a production that Jim would have scored. I KNOW this because these songs appear in the original text by Brecht. "Song of the Golden Egg", > "Song of the Gods" (same as Gods/Bolero from > Neverland), Again, this also would have originated from "Good Person". "Oh What a War", and "Go Go > Guerrillas". Hopefully, we'll finally be able to hear the lyrics. Again, you're amazing! > > Kid Champion demos: This tape starts off with > several instrumental tracks, which not surprisingly > resemble other Steinman compositions. The highlight is at > the end with "For Crying Out Loud" (which is mind-blowing) Holy cow! > and "Yogi" (which is a beautiful song). Hmmm...Is it recycled? Jim is credited > with the lead vocal on these two but it doesn't sound like > him. Could be Rory, or some other unknown person. "Kid Champion" was 1975. "Rockabye Hamlet" was 1976. I think that's where Meat Loaf would have met Rory Dodd and then introduced him to Jim (Rory said on Classic Albums that he introduced him to Jim.) It might be someone else. > > Phantom of the Paradise demos: The highlight of > this tape is Rory Dodd singing "Making Love Out of Nothing > at All" with Jim on piano; Wow. I think this is the one Jim mentioned on his blog. It's supposed to be his favourite piano recording of his? > this version has extra lyrics. Wow again!!! Is it more of an epic than the Air Supply track? > There is also the string intro to Rory's version of "A > Kiss Is a Terrible Thing to Waste", as well as an > instrumental of one verse and chorus. Was that on the other recording that used to be available at Smeghead's site? And what's the quality like? I prefer this version to the Everly Brothers version. The tape ends with > Jim singing and playing an updated version of "Who Needs > the Young". O_O So this was recorded in the 1980s??? Shitttt!!!! There are also unfinished mixes of Pandora's > Box's "Original Sin" and "Good Girls Go to Heaven" without > the guitars and backing vocals. Shit, Shit, Shit!!! Never thought I'd hear those, EVER!!! Now you're going to tell us that you also have Ellen and Kyle's demos of "All Coming Back"...If only... BUT NO!!! You're amazing!! THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!
