Just to touch on your "Carry a tune" argument for a second, as I found it very interesting. Although Jim may not technically be as a good a vocalist then Meat through sheer genetic or whatever. I do think the conviction of a singers performance is a key factor.

Case in point, have you (Or anybody else here) heard of a British singer called Alex Day. A successful Youtube vlogger, he also releases music. Now, its nothing like Jim's music at all. But I really like his voice and his lyrics. Now, Mr Day, like how you described yourself (Although I dont have the grounds to agree or disagree having never heard you) can carry a tune, but really, he isnt the strongest singer, far from it actually. But its the conviction, the performer inhabiting the character and really living it that sells it for me. Meat can't live through Jim's characters as well as Jim because Meat didn't write the songs. With most things, there are exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, it's Jim that brings out the potential in his music, at least for me. May have waffled on a bit much there, hope this doesn't read like I'm having a pop at you or anything, just found your point interesting :)
