I actually emailed Michael Beinhorn a few years back

I emailed Michael Beinhorn via his MySpace a number of years ago now, asked him about his work with Meat Loaf and said that it would have been great had he stayed on instead of Desmond coming in. (The album had been released a little while when I emailed him… less than I year I think).

He seemed a really, really nice guy — his wife ran his MySpace and responded straight away but he personally responded a few weeks later. I've since lost his exact response on a dead hard drive, but I remember his exact words were 'I would have given someone else's left testicle to work with Jim Steinman, but that was never on the cards'. :-) Interesting that at that relatively early stage it was already a fait accompli that it had nothing to do with Jim.

He also said that the only thing he was involved with was 'perfunctory groundwork' that he said had no bearing on the finished product… I got the impression (nothing he said explicitly, just the general tone) that it wasn't the greatest project to be involved with even at that stage, and there was absolutely no remorse of any kind to no longer be on board.

Perhaps even distancing himself from it all a bit. Anyway, nice guy.
