I'm quite surprised by the what-if-Jim-had-been-involved discussion this has led to. I certainly don't begrudge it at all, but i thought absolutely every discussion on that front had been had by now ^.^ But it's interesting that basically EVERYBODY thinks that the 7 steinman numbers on TMiL are NOT sufficient to constitute and entire album. Recognizing that the decision to not include Jim in the project in any way is separate to the decision to invite other songwriters into the project, this view pretty well vindicates the decision for Desmond to pump out the 'remaining' songs. Where else were they going to come from? I disagree. I think the seven songs, done properly, ARE sufficient to make an album. And adding Braver Than We Are as an 8th makes it even stronger. I should imagine, however, that the serious question marks over the legality of using two or three of the newer ones may have been a deciding factor in getting other songwriters in, just in case. | |
