| What about his > new songs, like "Still the Children", "What Part Of My > Body", and my new favorite (although I'm probably the only > one) "Not Allowed To Love"? Did they have previous > lives? > > sb To my surprise, they were new (but "Body" is complicated, hang on a sec.) "Still The Children", like Jim said himself, is the best "new song" he's written in 10 years. I've heard say that the riff for "Not Allowed To Love" is "A Good Nightmare Comes So Rarely" (the opening verse of the Broadway "Invitation To The Ball", DOTV) but, personally, I don't hear it. Now... THIS verse in Body: "You'll always be here with me You're a ghost and I've been cursed And if you were exorcised It would only make it worse" Is the same as the one in Safe Sex, musically: "We'll never be as young as this No matter how we try, we grow You're not such an innocent boy And I already know" I also think, though I've never spoken to anyone who agrees with me about it, the chorus is just a watered down "Like a bat out of hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes". Demonstration: "Like a bat out of hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes" Concentrate on that line in your head and then sing it to this lyric: "What part of my body hurts the most" Do you see what I'm getting at? In general, there is a LOT of recycling in Jim's music. I have been planning to make a full list for years but it would be an enormously time-consuming job because some of the recycling is so intricate it'd drive you insane. | |
