| Ryan, I like your Whelan picture better than the other two Whelan pictures that Wilbury posted (although I liked them too). Is your picture a tour poster? It says "99". Do you think the addition of the motorcycle makes it more striking? Your picture is very post-apocalyptic. Very Obsidian. With all the destroyed buildings. The man looking at the bat could be Jim's version of Peter Pan. > Joe Stefko (drummer touring with Meat at the time) > recommended Whelan's work when Meat was looking for the > Bat II artist. Meat and Jim conceptualized the cover, but > had various disagreements (with Michael caught in the > middle!). One of them wanted the view looking down into > the city, the other wanted a view looking up. The end > result is the bizarre perspective of NYC skyscrapers on > the album cover. Wow. Now that is very interesting. The bat perched on top of The Chrysler Building is my favourite bat picture ever. > Apparently, Jim demanded an angel on the cover, but Meat > told Whelan "ah, forget all that angel shit." But, Jim was > adamant about having an angel on the cover. (Reminds me of > "Todd...where's my motorcycle??? from Bat I). Hee hee. That's very funny. Have you seen the Classic Albums interview where Jim makes fun of himself going on about the motorcycle to Todd? | |
