Is it salvageable? I have no idea. > > Probably Ryan would know. I don't know how much of it actually exists. And whether or not we'd ever be able to see it (Warner Brothers would probably flop. Did you know the script for "Batman Triumphant" still hasn't leaked? That was going to be the fifth Batman film in the 90s, but "Batman * Robin" flopped and it was cancelled. The villain was going to be the Scarecrow and Harley Quinn, who was the Joker's daughter getting revenge. And the Joker would actually reappear as an hallucination created by the Scarecrow. And yes, Jack would have played the part, I believe.) But, musically, I think the opening is as good as "Requiem for Evita/Oh, what a circus". The problem is there appears to be a lot of character songs, not necessarily songs that develop the plot. It reminds me of Frank Wildhorn's "Wonderland", listening to the score and wondering how they constructed the script. But perhaps the songs worked in the script. I don't know. I don't think David Ives has ever even commented since the project was cancelled. > > Last year, JD posted about a Batman musical that isn't > using Jim's music (for some strange reason). I don't know > if the producers of that show now have the rights. Well, that's a play and not a musical. There may be hope yet, one day. I just hope Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures don't reignite the project with a different team of songwriters. > > Of course it would be very cool if Jim's version of > "Batman: The Musical" could be salvaged. I'd love to see > the Joker singing one of Jim's songs. So would I. I think they could probably even use "Only when I feel" and "Life is a lemon" as Joker songs. But, of course, we wouldn't want TOO much recycling. | |
