I don't think writers/artists ever give up on or retire from their art? He may have given up on trying to release songs commercially (the industry is dire at the moment), but who knows.
What I do find strange is that I believe Jim/Rinkoff have a lot of finished productions of songs just sitting gathering dust. I'm sure he could have gotten a few of these onto appropriate albums, just to keep his name 'out there'.

I honestly believe Jim has been working exclusively on this Bat show for the past 3-4 years, hence no other activity.
I think global economics have pissed on the shows fireworks.

Time heals, especially if a big cheque is waived under Jim's nose.
