Sorry, I have to disagree. I love that verse. And I really think it fits too.
"Everything I've ever dreamed of
Has begun to fade to black
I don't know where I ever lost love
Or where to go now to get it back"
He's lost love, he doesn't know where to get it back, he's done, he's finished, now he wants to fake it, take it, make it, wake it, forsake it, and, of course, break it.
I love the earlier lyric. This is sooo cool:
