| "This next song was written by an absolute genius, Jim Steinman, and it's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'". Saw my first Bonnie Tyler concert last week and she mentioned Jim a couple of times during the concert which was nice. When she let the crowd sing the "total eclipse of the heart' line she said "I wish Jim could hear this". Well, Jim wasn't there but I heard it. :) So Jim, there were a couple of thousand people at the outdoor concert in the center of a city singing your classic lyric in a chilly summer night: sounded great. I managed to yell STEINMAN! one time in between songs but I gave up trying to do the same with every Steinman track Bonnie's recorded because I realized it wouldn't likely have made any difference to the set list. :) Three Jim songs (Total Eclipse/Faster Than.../Holding Out For A Hero) were on the set list. Hearing those live was interesting. Had fun watching the guitarist and bass player doing the background vocals (aah/aaah!) on Steinman songs and was surprised how "heavy" the songs sounded live when played by a rock band with proper volume. "And I need you now tonight" part was especially interesting as a guitar arrangement. They didn't do the Rory fade out at the end of TEOTH and the high vocal ending on 'Faster' so I had to sing those myself. :) The bass player was smiling constantly during the concert. The happiest bass player I've ever seen. After the concert I started to think who's going to perform Jim's music (more than one song) after Meat and Bonnie stop touring. There will be no one performing Jim's material live after those two will retire... Fortunately there's 'Tanz der Vampire'. I hope the 'Bat out of Hell' musical will open someday and there will be then another place to enjoy Jim's music live... | |
