That was also my first introduction to a Steinman song (although I didn't know at the time who wrote it). I think it's the seminal Steinman song, including so many of Jim's trademark song "components" (background vocals, explosions, great lyric, big production etc.). I still don't get tired of listening to it after all these years. The thing that is astounding to me is that Jim had the "turn around" part already written in college 1969 (Dream Engine) and decided to hold on to it for 14 years until finally releasing a new song to the public in 1983 with that part in it. Why he didn't use it before on 'Bat out of Hell', 'Bad For Good' or 'Dead Ringer' has always puzzled me... I think this occasion should be celebrated somehow. There was a great Rory Dodd demo of 'Making Love' released a couple of years ago. So if there is a demo also of Rory singing 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' then this would be a good time to release it to the fans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the song. | |
