Why did Caird leave "Vampires"?

I don't know if any of you remember but the original directors for "Dance Of The Vampires" were going to be John Caird and Jim Steinman (the book was credited to David Ives, Jim Steinman, Michael Kunze and John Caird).

Caird co-directed the original London and Broadway productions of "Les Miserables", as well as "Song And Dance" for Andrew Lloyd Webber and Broadway's "Jane Eyre".

Why did he leave the show? Why were he and Steinman replaced by John Rando? Also, Daniel Ezralow was set to choreograph. What happened to him? How come he was replaced by John Carrappa (no, that's not a spelling mistake).

The topic came up in a convo with a friend, and I thought I would ask.

I'm gathering it has to do with 9/11
