It still has its moments for me like "Hand me the wine and the dice" and "Anything but lonely" which I think are really powerful and moving. "Seeing is believing" and "Chanson d'enfance" have great, great melodies for me. My problem with "Love never dies" was the storyline but I absolutely loved the music itself. "Beneath a moonless sky" was electrifying. I wish I could hear just the music arranged as a suite. "The Beautiful Game" and "The Woman in White", Andrew's other recent shows, definitely have their moments as well. I love completely the song "The first time" from "The Beautiful Game" and "Dead zone". "Trying not to notice", "I believe my heart" and "Evermore without you" from "The Woman in White" are all great to me, and the eerie and memorable "All for Laura" and "Lost souls". I'm looking forward to "Stephen Ward". Re: "Tanz", this is definitely one of my favourite cast recordings ever, along with "Sweeney Todd" OBC and a few others. It's so amazing to hear Jim's music with Steve's orchestrations come together as beautifully and emotionally and sonically brilliant as this in two and a half hours. | |
