| In this month's Classic Rock (Nov13), a 3 page feature on Def Leppard working with Jim titled 'The Greatest Unreleased Albums Ever'. I'll try and get it scanned later but in the meantime: Jim was recommended to the band by one of their managers Cliff Burnstein. Chris Thomas, Trevor Horn & Phil Collins were also considered to produce. The band first met Jim at their shared house in Dublin, and all sat around drinking tea. Joe Elliott immediately felt 'uncomfortable' as he thought Jim was in a 'different orbit to the rest of us'. Jim suggested various song titles including 'USE IT OR LOSE IT', which the Leps hated. Jim wanted a BOOH style keyboard run on the song 'Run Riot', but again the Leps hated the idea. Jim worked on 7 songs to various stages: Don't Shoot Shotgun, Run Riot, Animal, Women, Gods of War, Love & Affection and Love Bites. According to Joe Elliot, Jim received a 'big six figure sum' as a payoff, when asked to leave the project. Joe Elliot has a box of tapes in his library marked 'HYSTERIA: THE STEINMAN SESSIONS'. He says they will never be released as nothing is finished and it would be unfair to both parties (Def Lep & Jim). : | |
