The Coldest Day in Hell

I wrote this lyric years ago as a hypothetical sub-title track to Bat III. This was around 2005 when presumably Jim and Meat were going to make the album *together*. I haven't posted it before but it seems appropriate again.

Nothing ends well or else nothing would end
and so we both agreed
that it's better this way.
That the skies should split from end to end,
that the seas should wash this world away,
before we let ourselves repeat,
before we dance this twisted dance again.

You know I cried in the night to the heavens
And I prayed, "let it not be the same."
And I swear I heard a demon shiver
when the stars called back your name.

And now the temperatures are dropping
and there's frost on Satan's brow,
and if I never needed you before
God knows I need you now!
Yes if I never needed you before,
By the Gods I need you now!

It's the coldest day in Hell
If it's back to me and you.
And it doesn't really matter now
just who crawls back to who.
There ain't no use in running
when it's Destiny tolling the bell.
But if it's come back 'round to you and me
its surely got to be
the coldest day in Hell.

Now there's a wicked cold front creeping
across the dark abyss
And it's conjuring dormant memories
of a frigid goodbye kiss.

Aw, which one of us is the albatross?
And who's the Evil Twin?
Just when I thought Time had broken us clean
We suck me right back in.
Just when I thought we were over and out
it all begins again!

It's the coldest day in Hell
if it's you and I again,
we're the best of jaded enemies
and the worst of faded friends.
No kicking and screaming can save us,
and I guess that it's just as well,
for if it's us again the Fates decree
then it's surely got to be
the coldest day in Hell.

Now would you rather crash and burn,
or simply fade away?
Fall fast upon a flaming sword
or whither and die another day?
We can choose to go out in a blaze of glory
or a haze of tedious, ignorant bliss.
Either way there's no happy at the end of our story,
but as sure as you're breathing I can tell you this:
whatever it costs to close this book,
there's gonna be Hell to pay!

A fiendish snow is falling now,
as I reach out for your hand.
And I know that I can't keep away,
as a chill blows through the damned.

It's the coldest day in Hell
if it's back to me and you,
and it doesn't really matter now,
just who crawls back to who.
There ain't no use in running
when it's Destiny tolling the bell,
but if it's come back 'round to you and me
then it's surely got to be
the coldest day in Hell!

Nothing ends well or else nothing would end
Nothing ends well or else nothing would end
Nothing ends well or else nothing would end

Nothing ends well
(the coldest day in Hell)
Nothing ends well
(the coldest day in Hell)
Nothing ends well...

...or else nothing would end.
