I posted this in the Facebook group but some people aren't on there so I'm cross-posting it here. This past weekend I visited the special collections library at NYU. I didn't spend a lot of time there since it was just one stop on a weekend chock-full of adventures, but I did get to glance through early '70s scripts of More Than You Deserve and The Confidence Man. The MTYD script is identical to the one I previously shared, except on the title page it says "More Than You Deserve formerly Souvenirs" instead of flipped around like the other one. Below are the notes I took regarding the Confidence Man script, copyright date 1977. Cast of Characters: The Confidence Man – as himself, and as Street Violinist, Black Guinea, Ringman, Truman, Healman, Helpman, Goodman Melville The Girl The Customs Officer The Merchant Roberts The Clergyman The Barber The Miser The Soldier of Fortune The Tailor } Male Dancer-singer The Steward } Female Dancer-Singer All are passengers on the riverboat Fidele Musical Numbers Act I: 1) New Orleans Is Comin' to Me & Means Something: Roberts, Clergyman, Soldier of Fortune, & Passengers 2) Pitch Penny: Black Guinea (The Confidence Man) 3) Such Heaps of Fine Friends: Barber, Roberts, Clergyman, & Passengers 4) Melville's Theme: Orchestral 5) Edging Into Darkness: Girl 6) Confidence: Ringman (Confidence Man) 7) Methinks: Ringman, Customs Officer, & Steward 8) Nocturnally Yours: Girl, Roberts, & Barber 9) Pain Humbles: Healman (Confidence Man) 10) A Maiden Is Only as Maiden as She Feels: Girl 11) Give Us This Day Our Daily Flesh: Soldier of Fortune 12) Pour Me Home: Customs Officer, Roberts, Clergyman, & Passengers 13) Confidence (Reprise): The Confidence Man Act II: 1) Minstrel Show Medley: Helpman (Confidence Man), Customs Officer, & Clergyman 2) Milady: Goodman (Confidence Man) 3) Such Heaps of Fine Friends (Reprise): Barber, Roberts, Clergyman 4) Quite an Original: Melville 5) A Soft-Handed Gentleman: Girl 6) Milady (Reprise): The Confidence Man 7) New Orleans Is Comin' to Me (Reprise): Passengers "Pour Me Home" didn't appear on the 2003 cast album, lyrics are as follows: Pour me home, I say, Sing me cheer along the way – Squeeze the bottle, serve the bubble, make me foam. And if mine's the truth to tell, I'll pour out my heart as well! Fill my cup, stir me up, and pour me home | |
