From what I can gather, Smeg didn't pretend to be Meat, he pretended that there was an interview with him (summat like that) on something that was obviously completely bogus from the start, unless you're a moron and thought it was real. Ryan on the other hand actually pretended to be Desmond and did so in a fashion that even had Jim making comment.
