| Anybody listen to this Danish band? They've been around for awhile, but I only heard of them recently. I picked up 4 of their 5 albums after hearing a handful of tracks, and I can honestly say I haven't been this enthusiastic about getting turned on to a "new" band in many years. They cite their influences as Metallica, Social Distortion, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, the 1950s, among other things. Some of their riffs could easily be straight out of classic Metallica, but the tunes are also high on catchy, melodic hooks, and the songs run the gamut from heavy metal to metal-edged rockabilly to something a bit harder than power-pop, with a dash of punk-flair dropped in here and there. The songs are extremely energetic, for lack off a better word, and produced with just enough "epic" flourishes to appeal to my ever-present, inner Steinman fan. The singer has a great, distinctive voice and delivery, too: like Danzig's tone with James Hetfield's mannerisms. (My only gripe is 1/2 of the lyrics are initially unintelligible at first, but you get used to it. I think it may be related to English not being the guy's native tongue, but that's just speculation...) Tunes I'd recommend to get the feel: Heaven Nor Hell, Fallen, The Nameless One, Hangman's Body Count, The Garden's Tale, Radio Girl, Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, Maybelenne I Hofteholder. Jesus, I could go on... Anyway, check them out if you haven't and you like rock n roll, is my point. | |
