I recently picked up a manga on the life of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It is quite interesting, if a bit fictionalized; the pacing could be slowed a bit as well to get more in depth. It has prompted me to do a little more research on Ludwig and his life. I already knew that Ludwig was a great fan and patron of Richard Wagner.
I have just run across the linked article (URL below). This is a fascinating summary of Ludwig's love life. But what especially struck me is the first photo of Ludwig in the article, under the painted portrait. Ludwig seems to my eye to look a lot like Jim Steinman. Compare to Jim's yearbook photo on the News & Notes page. Do you see it?
While we're at it, I've always though Wagner himself looks like actor Robert Vaughn. And actor Josef Kainz reminds me of actor Barry Pearl in this photo, or singer Barry Hay from Golden Earring.
I especially love the photo of Ludwig at the bottom. That's how I want to remember him.
