There are a lot of factors why people don't have 40 year careers. Bands break up, someone dies, they retire or just have enough money or don't want the grind. Eagles, Abba, the Police, Queen, Michael Jackson, etc Solo artists have a much longer shot at longevity, since there is only one ego to feed. Elton John, Billy Joel, Madonna, Springsteen There will always be a handful with long careers, but most will fade for a number of reasons. You can go back to almost any era around the time Meat is talking about (70's, 80's whenever), and look at the top 10 artists of the time, and I bet more than half are not still performing or recording. | |
