They're not signed to a major studio. Major studios crunch out mainstream crap with precious little variation, it all sounds fairly similar. Just put a pretty face before the microphone and have the customers drool over them while autotune makes sure they are somewhat on key. Makes sense for them, they don't have to take risks, they don't have to invest too much and they get a nice revenue out of it.
