| There's a video on YouTube of Colm Wilkinson performing the Sydmonton version of "The music of the night". I can imagine Jim writing something along the lines of this, but better. I'm not the biggest fan of this version but I like it for what it is. THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT Lyrics: Richard Stilgoe Night time sharpens Heightens each sensation Darkness multiplies imagination Slowly all the senses Abandon their defences Helpless to resist the notes I write For I compose the music of the night Close your eyes For your eyes will only tell the truth And the truth isn't what you want to see In the dark it is easy to pretend That the truth is what it ought to be Daytime, music Meaningless and fleeting Bird song, small talk Empty words of greeting As the night is nearing Touch and taste and hearing Gradually replace redundant sight Preparing for the music of the night Close your eyes Let the touch of it suffuse your soul Let its embers crescendo into flame Can you tell is it pleasure? Is it pain? From now on you'll never be the same Don't reject My music though you fear it Let me show you Only stay and hear it Measure after measure An instrument of pleasure A treasure house of passion and delight Come join me in the music of the night On my own my soul cannot take flight Help me make the music of the night... PS. This verse from "A kiss is a terrible thing to waste" gives me some idea as well. Let's make a promise And then let's take a vow Time's running out The only time left is now And you know you deserve more than this If you trust me at all Then just give it a chance They all want you to crawl But I want you to dance And if we make a pact Then it's only right we seal it with a kiss | |
