| Well, folks, Friday will be a very interesting day, because that will be the day on which Finnish metal band Nightwish release their new album in Europe (other countries will have to wait a few days longer - by next Tuesday the album should be available everywhere, however). Now, I've always been a big fan of Nightwish and I know that some people here like them too. Their last album, "Imaginaerum", was generally received real well. Some long-time fans didn't like it so much, but I was really impressed and for days and days, I listened to it without end. Needless to say, that album immediately became my favorite Nightwish release so far. The new album, due in just a few days, will be called "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". It will be the first studio album featuring their new lead singer Floor Jansen. Ms. Jansen is not an unknown person to metal fans: For years, she was the lead singer of the (now disbanded) Dutch metal band After Forever. Personally, I think she's a good selection as Nightwish's new front woman. Of course, as their previous album immediately became my favorite one, I'm looking forward to the new one with highest expectations. Unfortunately, the few songs that have already been released in advance didn't quite convince me. They are not bad, but if the whole album follows in the steps of these songs, then I fear "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" won't beat "Imaginaerum" for me. If you are interested, just search YouTube for the songs "Elan", "Shudder Before The Beautiful" and "Sagan". These are the songs that have been released in advance of the album. Be it as it may, Nightwish's new album is one of the two albums I'm most looking forward to this year. The other one, of course, being the new Meat Loaf album. Anyone interested in more heavy, epic music should certainly have a look at the new Nightwish offering once it's out! Without having listened to it completely yet I cannot see if it's really excellent, but I have no doubts that it will be quite good and well worth listening to! Greetings, Nils | |
