| I'm not sure how to say "wow, that is some serious god-level stalking! That's amazing, well done!" without it sounding sarcastic or otherwise bad. I don't mean it to be. Interesting essay, isn't it? Not for its straightforward content, but that it exists there at that point. I mean, I guess he didn't just think one day "I would love to write an essay about the three best American inventions", either he's been pushed into it or he's trying to win a competition and get printed. But it seems painless. Then you think about the sentiment of The Dream Engine and More Than You Deserve, the Vietnam war hit his generation so hard, and was so.... ugly. Then his stuff afterwards - do you get the feeling that he still adores America symbolically and idealistically, but doesn't like it so much realistically? But I guess the same goes for a lot of his stuff. When I put the real thing in front of the mirrors, it is not nearly as beautiful as the reflection that came first. Anyway. Interesting! | |
