Albums... Yvonne Elliman: Food of love (first recorded JS song "Food of love") Meat Loaf: Bat out of Hell Delta House Theme (for the TV show, rare vinyl promo only) A small circle of friends: Film soundtrack (No CD but the film score is out there) Jim Steinman: Bad for good Meat Loaf: Dead ringer Ian Hunter: All of the good ones are taken (Vocal arrangements on the title track, fast version) Air Supply: Greatest Hits (Making love out of nothing at all, Number 2 behind Total eclipse of the heart) Bonnie Tyler: Faster than the speed of night (Jim produces whole album, and writes title track and Total eclipse of the heart) Barry Manilow: Greatest Hits Vol. II (Jim writes and produces Read 'em and weep, a song which had been recorded on Dead ringer. This version has an extra verse) Footloose: Soundtrack (Jim co-writes and produces Holding out for a hero. Footloose later becomes a stage show which opens on Broadway in the late 90s) Streets of fire: Soundtrack (Jim writes and produces two songs, Nowhere fast and Tonight is what it means to be young, recorded by a group he put together called Fire Inc. Jim has worked with the members on all kinds of projects, including Pandora's Box: Original Sin) Billy Squier: Signs of life (Jim co-produces) Barbra Streisand: Emotion (Jim writes and produces Left in the dark, which Jim had recorded on Bad for good) Meat Loaf: Bad attitude (Meat records two Jim songs, Nowhere fast which is different from the SOF version, and Surf's up, also from Bad for good) The Wrestling Album (Jim writes and produces Hulk Hogan's Theme, which has the same music and track for Ravishing from Bonnie's next album) Iron Eagle: Soundtrack (Additional production on the song "Love can make you cry". I liked this from memory) Bonnie Tyler: Secret dreams and forbidden fire (Again, Jim produces the whole album, and contributes three new songs, Ravishing, Loving you's a dirty job (But somebody's gotta do it), a duet with Todd Rundgren, and Rebel without a clue. Holding out for a hero from Footloose is also included.) The Sisters of Mercy: Floodland (Jim co-produces Dominion/Mother Russia, and from memory produces This corrosion. Love these tracks.) Pandora's Box: Original Sin (Jim produces his girl band Pandora's Box, produces whole album and writes a good deal of the songs but not all. Contains some interesting cover versions of The Doors Twentieth Century Fox and the Hal David/Burt Bacharach song My Little Red Book.) Rude awakening: Soundtrack (Jim co-writes and produces the title song, and produces Darling be home soon, which I only heard recently. Really well worth checking out. I love what Phoebe Snow does at the beginning, and I love when Jim produces other people's work.) The Sisters of Mercy: Vision Thing (Jim co-writes and produces More from this album.) Iron Prostate: Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia (A demo that Jim produced in the early 90s. I think the BG vocals are members of the London production of "Cats".) Meat Loaf: Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell The Shadow: Soundtrack (Jim writes and produces the theme song "Original sin", a cover version of his song from Pandora's Box but with some different lyrics.) Watershed: Twister (Jim executive produces) Meat Loaf: Welcome to the neighbourhood (Meat records two older Jim songs, Original sin and Left in the dark. Nice versions. Can't help but wonder what they would have been like though if Jim had produced, but it goes in that direction because of several Jim associates being involved with the songs.) Bonnie Tyler: Free Spirit (Jim produces two of his older songs, Making love out of nothing at all, which is absolutely spectacular here and should have been Bonnie's I'd do anything for love IMO, and Two out of three ain't bad, which is... pretty amusing, haha.) Take That: Greatest Hits (Jim produces the remix of Never forget. Jim takes a boyband song and turns it into something like the movie Gladiator.) Celine Dion: Falling into you (Jim produces three songs here, including his own song It's all coming back to me now from Pandora's Box, which becomes an enormous hit) Celine Dion: Let's talk about us (Additional production on the song Us. Jim wrote a song for this album, with lyrics by Don Black, which never made it to the final version. A recording is floating around out there.) Anastasia: Soundtrack (Jim produces the villain song In the dark of the night, working with legendary voice over actor Jim Cummings and a cast of thousands, haha.) Tanz der Vampire: Original cast Highlights & Complete (Jim produces a lavish double CD album of the musical he composed in the 90s directed by Roman Polanski) The Mask of Zorro: Soundtrack (Jim produces I want to spend my lifetime loving you, written by James Horner and Will Jennings who had just had a massive hit with My heart will go on from the movie Titanic. Jim works with singer Tina Arena again on Whistle down the wind.) Songs from Whistle down the wind: Various artists (Jim writes lyrics for this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical which opened originally in Washington D.C. and then London in the mid to late 90s. This particular album spawns the massive Boyzone hit No matter what. Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler's version of A kiss is a terrible thing to waste also comes from this album) The Very Best of Meat Loaf (The last collaboration of Meat and Jim in the studio together. This album contains three new songs, co-written and produced/co-produced by Jim. Is nothing sacred, the song dropped from Celine's album, is recorded here by Meat Loaf and then later released as a single by Meat with Patti Russo.) Whistle down the wind: Original cast (Double album of more or less the entire original London production. Jim however I believe did not produce this album.) Opera Babes: Beyond imagination (Jim produces a song called Vittoria! drawn from Verdi's opera Aida. Well worth listening to if you're an opera/Jim fan.) Wuthering Heights: Soundtrack EP (Jim produces this whole EP and contributes four of the songs, including the new song If it ain't broke (Break it). Wuthering Heights was a TV movie Jim executive produced for MTV.) The Confidence Man: Various artists (A recording of all of the main songs from Jim's musical with Ray Fox, The Confidence Man, which was originally to be performed at the New York Shakespeare Festival. "Steinman does bluegrass!" I've always been a big fan of this. You still have your great "epic" Steinman moments though. "Something of this masquerade may follow" is tremendous.) The Everly Brothers: The Mercury Studio Recordings (Jim wrote and produced A kiss is a terrible thing to waste, which Everly Brothers recorded in the 80s but never released. Here, these songs were finally released. This is a great "lost" Steinman song.) Meat Loaf: Bat out of Hell III: The Monster is Loose (Sadly, not a full Meat and Jim collaboration like the last two albums. I guess I'll always wonder what such an album would have been like. Most of the songs are covers of older Jim songs. In the land of the pig and Cry to heaven are the "new" songs but drawn from unproduced projects. Worth checking out if you're curious.) Musicals The Dream Engine (Book, music and lyrics, produced at Amherst College in 1969. Jim also plays the role Baal. Steinmania has the full show up on his page. Transcript is available on this site) More than you deserve (Music and co-lyrics, produced at New York Shakespeare Festival 1973. There are several tapes floating out there, all worth checking out. The workshop recording that recently came to light revealed another "unheard" Steinman song, Orphan river.) Kid champion (Music and co-lyrics, a play by Thomas Babe produced at New York Shakespeare Festival 1975 starring Christopher Walken! One of the songs Jim wrote was none other than For crying out loud from Bat out of Hell.) Rhinegold (Music and co-book, a musical written with Barry Keating based on the first opera from Wagner's Ring Cycle, Das Rheingold, produced several times in NYC) The Confidence Man (Music, see above.) Neverland (Music, book and lyrics, workshop in Washington D.C. Jim's career long "opus", a futuristic version of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Includes three Bat songs, All revved up, Bat out of Hell and Heaven can wait, also the music from Bolero from the original Bat tour.) Whistle down the wind (See above) Tanz der Vampire (See above) Garbo (Jim co-wrote the score for this musical that was produced in Sweden in 2002. Several really awesome moments here) Dance of the Vampires (The Broadway version of Tanz der Vampire, one of the biggest flops in American musical history. The show was basically ruined from the original Austrian/German versions. Also marked the first appearance from Michael Crawford on a Broadway stage since his legendary performance in The Phantom of the Opera). Upcoming: Bat out of Hell Nutz Other Steinman stage work: A man's a man (His first score for a play, a play by Bertolt Brecht) Baal (Jim wrote the score for this production of what was Brecht's very first play) Ubu (A score for a puppet version of the Alfred Jarry play Ubu on the hill. A soundtrack was recorded, for use in the play, but never released. Permission would have to be secured from several parties in order for these tapes to be released. One wonders what the musical content is...) The good woman of Setzuan (Another Brecht score) And more > Can someone please point me toward's Jim's music? > > I know and love: > - Meat Loaf (BOH 1-3, Bad For Good, Dead Ringer etc. > - Bad For Good > - Pandora's Box > - Bonnie Tyler > - Celine Dion > - Air Supply > - Tanz > > Anything else?
