| If Jim had written more musicals in the 80s and 90s, based on movies or whatever, what do you think would have been some good/great source material? I'll try and list a few that I can think of. "Fatal attraction" - can see all of Jim's songs from Pandora's Box more or less working here. "It just won't quit" is Alex, the Glenn Close character, thinking about Dan. "Is this a blessing? or is it a curse? Does it get any better? can it get any worse? Will it go on forever? or is it over tonight? Does it come with the darkness? Does it bring out the light? Is it richer than diamonds? or just a little cheaper than spit? I don't know what it is but it just won't quit. I don't know what it is but it just won't quit. There was a time when nothing ever really mattered..." Dan: You're so sad. You know that, Alex? Lonely and very sad. Alex: Don't you ever pity me, you smug bastard. Dan: I'll pity you... I'll pity you. I'll pity you because you're sick. Alex: Why? Because I won't allow you to treat me like some slut you can just bang a couple of times and throw in the garbage? Baby, there's no such thing Baby, it just ain't true And there's no such thing as safe sex When it comes to loving you When it comes to loving you Or whatever. "The Frighteners" - Peter Jackson's follow up movie to "Heavenly Creatures" in 1996. The Agent Dammers character even reminds me of the Historian in "The Dream Engine" at times, and the two "thrill killers" Johnny and Patricia almost have an element of Peter and Wendy about them, or like they could have come from that world of the tribe in "The Dream Engine" but they would have been thrown out. The dark humour that runs through this movie, more prominently in the director's cut which is the only one I've been watching nowadays, I can't help but imagine would have appealed to Jim's interests, in the way that something like "Tanz" did. Then you have the Michael J. Fox character who sort of wanders around as if he's dead, working with dead people to try and run a business frightening people. Yeah, it was a bit of a flawed movie, but I think this could have been transformed into quite a delicious little show with Jim songs. Can't think of any others right now... | |
