I'm a little surprised at the content. When I saw in the forward that the freedom of the non-conformist was one of the ideals cited, I felt sure that was Jimmy. His essay, while well written, seems so in the thrall of the mainstream-- but, to be fair, he was only 15 at the time, an, in 1963, not yet ready to bury the skull of his country.
Obviously, people change over time. I recall Jim saying relatively recently (when he still maintained his blog? When he still used Twitter?) that the two greatest American inventions were jazz and BBQ. I agree with him fully on that, and I've got a BBQ restaurant in San Francisco where I want to buy him lunch.
