| Is it really only 30 miles from Sheffield to Manchester? The trains between the two cities are so slow and annoying, it's like travelling by massively-overcrowded milk float. It takes an hour, maybe more, and that's the direct train. I guess there are mountains in the way or something, though... I'm planning to go a week after you guys, so... have fun. It seemed a good idea; after a week, the bugs'll be worked out, and I'm going the night before my birthday. :) Personally, I've only been to Manchester twice, and it was for an annual weekend-long video games event they do called Play Expo - so mostly I've only seen the inside of one large hall in the city, and stayed in one hotel. It was a Premier Inn somewhere near the Trafford Centre. Nothing fancy at all; a known hotel chain - cheap, clean, peaceful rooms, nice bed, decent enough breakfast. So for this trip, I decided to book a room for the night I'm attending, at the Premier Inn nearest the Opera House. It says on TripAdvisor that it's a 5 minute walk (just across the river). Then head home the next day. I never really considered even trying to do the whole "being a tourist" thing in Manchester... Anyway.
